Mac OS 7.5

Stickies Picture

Requires: None
Hidden Game: 1. Open a new sticky, one that has nothing on it
2. Without messing up, type "Antler!" (without quote marks)

 

ResEdit Pig Mode

Requires: None
Hidden Game: 1. Run ResEdit and close the splash screen and/or Open dialog
2. Hold Option + Shift + Command while choosing About ResEdit… from the Apple menu.
3. A dialog comes up asking if you want to turn pig mode on. Click OK.
4. If ResEdit was run on an old mac like an SE from a floppy, the drive will 'oink' a few times each second.
5. To turn pig mode off, repeat steps 2 and 3.

 

Two Clipping Windows

Requires: None
Hidden Game: 1. Select some text in SimpleText; drag to desktop
2. Select some more text in SimpleText, drag to desktop
3. Go to the desktop and open the first clipping
4. Press command-up arrow
5. Press the arrow button that allows you to select the other clipping without clicking
6. Press command-down arrow to open it (so you have 2 clipping windows open)
7. Press command-up arrow and do the same manoeuvre to open the other clipping.
8. Don't ask me how I found it...

 

3D Picture and Flag Inside Note Pad

Requires: None
Hidden Game: 1. Open note pad
2. Type "secret about box" without quotes.
3. Highlight "secret about box" and drag to desktop.
4. Try it again only hold down "p" key while dragging.

 

See the Original Mac OS

Requires: None
Hidden Game: 1. Hold down option.
2. Choose "About this Macintosh"
3. Now choose "About this Finder"
4. You'll get the picture of the original Mac OS


Installer Egg

Requires: None
Easter Egg: 1. WHILE installing System Software (I believe 7.5 and before)
2. After the last disk (or Folder) has been read
3. But before "Finishing install..." shows up
4. Hold down OPTION & COMMAND keys and keep them down
5. When the text says "Settng Correct Desktop Pattern..."
6. A secret about box will open.
7. (May not work on newer install scripts)
8. (different for different software versions)

 

Meanies

Requires: System 7.5
Hidden Game: Egg:
Check out the Meanies.

How to find it:
1. In System 7.5, open the System file (in your System Folder) using any application that can read it as text (Microsoft Word or ResEdit, for example).
2. Scroll through the text to find some text describing what the Blue Meanies are up to.
3. You can find out more about the Meanies if you have the System 7.5.3 update and open up the System Update 2.0 file as text (use Finder to locate the file).


Mac OS 8

Desktop Picture of Bird

Requires: None
Hidden Game: 1. Name a pict file secret about box
2. Open Desktop pictures and make it the desktop picture
3. It shoudl be a bird with the devolpers names in it on your desk top
4. ENJOY.

 

Finder Landscape Picture

Requires: None
Hidden Game: 1. Hold down the Option key while clicking the Apple menu
3. "About this Computer" will be changed to "About this Finder"
4. Select "About this Finder"


Different Mac face


Requires: ResEdit, Mac OS 8.0, and a sharp eye
Hidden Game: Open ResEdit. Click out of the splash screen. Now, in the Open dialog, browse your way to the System Folder and choose the System file. Click OK in the warning dialog. Open up the cicn resource. There will be an ID called -20024. Double-click on it. Study the face. Close the picture editor, and open up the -20020 resource. Study this face carefully. Notice anything? If you give up, the -20024 resource face is winking. I heard somewhere that on bootup, the face would wink. But Apple thought that might be offensive to other cultures, so they removed the code but left the icon.


Mac OS 8.5

ASCII Art in Installer CD

Requires: None
Hidden Game: 1. Open a text editor such as BBEdit Lite
2. Open MacOS ROM in the System folder of the 8.5 installer CD
3. Select the text and reduce the size
4. Behold - an ASCII art MacOS logo!
5. (May work in other versions, I've only got the UK)

 

AppleScript Suprise

Requires: Script Editor v1.1.1
Hidden Game: -Game 1-

1. Select "About the Script Editor..." from the Apple Menu.

2. Hold in Control and click on the large icon.

3. The text will change from "The Script Editor" to "Guava Suprise"

-Game 2-

4. Click on the Credits button now, and you will see different credits for "Toy Suprise Alternate Credits"

-Game 3-

5. Select "About AppleScript..." from the Apple Menu.

6. Hold in Control and click on the large icon.

7. The text will change from "AppleScript" to "Pure Guava"

 

Mac OS 9

Middle of nowhere

Requires: A computer with Mac OS & the Map Control panel
Hidden Game: Go into the map control panel, type "middle" & click find. You will find that the location is in the south Atlantic between Africa & South America just north of Anartica. The location name is "Middle Of Nowhere."

 

About the Finder

Requires: Mac OS System 9
Hidden Game: 1. Hold down "Option"
2. While it is held down, go to the Apple Menu and choose "About the Finder."
3. This is the Apple Heaquarters in Silicon Valley, California. (Correct me if wrong!)
