Security Issues of Web
There are also some security issues concerned as you surf the net . Specific issues related to the web are described below:
IP Address
Sites can and often do record your IP address. For most dial-up users a new IP address is dynamically assigned every time you sign on, so the most that it reveals about you is the Internet Service Provider that you are using. This is a security risk only if the service provider provides their logs to others, which is unlikely unless they are under a court order.
If you use an office computer or a high speed
connection where your IP address is permanently assigned, then it can be used
to uniquely identify your machine. A web site might use this information to
track repeat visits.
Background Information. Web servers can record the operating system you are
using, the browser you are using, the site you linked from, and the pages you
access on their site. Some of this information can be seen at the following
addresses.
Privacy.net
Cyberarmy.com
404 Research Lab Supersleuth
Cookies.Cookies
can be used to store information on your computer that track your browsing patterns
on a particular site.
Previous Address. Every time you click
a link to jump from one page to another, the address of the old page is sent
to the new page, so that a site can tell where you came from. However, if you
type an address into the URL field of your browser manually, then the new site
can't tell which page you were previously on.
Next Address. A site can include code that will tell it which link you choose when you leave the site, so it knows where you are going. If you are seriously concerned about these risks, you can consider use of an Anonymizer.
There are a range of software programs to filter
adult content from the net, so that you can protect your children from undesirable
content. Yahoo has a good index.
