The perfect hand in solitaire
Requires:
Hidden Game: Its frustrating trying to get a good hand in solitaire.
With a little trick, you can make things much easier.
Using the software keyboard, tap Control, tap Shift, then tap the Deal button at the top, and you'll get a perfect hand of solitaire. Cards will be grouped with those of the same value, such as all threes together. Within a few minutes you should have the sorting done and the game finished!
Side Note: This is also a good way to judge the performance of your device -- look at how quickly it draws the cards to get an idea of how your device handles high-speed graphics.
Solaris/ Sun OS
Give peace a chance
Requires: View text of file
Hidden Game: The startup file /etc/init.d/yp contains the line
sleep 1 # we gave peace a chance, why not ypserve?
This reminded me of a better egg which may not be verrifiable any more, but I think it was in SunOS 4.0. That one was revealed if you typed the quite legitimate command
make love
The shell replied
not war.
You can tune a file system....
Requires: None
Hidden Game: In SunOS 4.1.1, I found that the man page for "tunefs"
(a filesystem utility) contained this line under the BUGS heading:
"You
can tune a file system, but you can't tuna fish."
Linux
Printer on Fire!
Requires: Linux 2.2.1
Easter Egg: 1. Using LINUX 2.2.1 (havent checked others), with bidirectional
printer support
2. Print from the network and force a printer jam (tear a corner off a piece
of paper and put back into th printer)
3. Issue a print command
4. Watch the output of the console (says lp0 printer on fire!)
5. Should have seen me RUN to the printer
Su gives funny comments
Requires: the sudo program
Easter Egg: if you have sudo installed (tested with CU Sudo version 1.5.9p1)
AND you are in the /etc/sudoers file, try this:
sudo (command)
use whatever command you are allowed to run in the sudoers file. make sure it is NOT a NOPASSWD marked one.
sudo will print a few lines of text, then ask you for a password. enter some crap. it will spew out funny lines, different ones each time. some examples:
"That's
something I cannot allow to happen."
"I've seen penguins that can type better than that."
"You do that again and see what happens..."
